Imaginative movement, music, text, and visual design intersect in a dreamy, pastel landscape. This bittersweet story follows five performers as they examine their own memories surrounding the inevitable transition from childhood innocence to self-aware adulthood. Iconic imagery and references from late 20th century pop culture heavily influence the costume, lighting, and set design. The original score meshes classical structure with instrumentation prevalent in the 80’s and 90’s.
ASSASSINS / NOV 16, 2018 4:00 pm / NOV 17-18, 20187:30PM Founders Theater / 8000 25th Ave NE Seattle Jess is currently choreographing her 11th musical for the Fine Arts Dept. at UPrep featuring US Play Production students in a highly anticipated performance this fall. Assassinscombines Sondheim's signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of our nation's culture of celebrity and the violent means some will use to obtain it, embodied by America's four successful and five would-be presidential assassins.
The show reveals the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical "revusical" that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman, bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.

AFTER combines intense light and sound effects with a physical performance that seamlessly integrates a rapid-fire flow of text blending pathos and humor with intelligence and vulnerability.
